Join us for the JustKS! Farm to Table Dinner!

As many of you know, The Local Depot & Prairie Fire Winery are dedicated to all things locally grown. You’ve probably heard Bob talk about (maybe too many times) how we literally grow everything that goes on a plate or in a glass here in Kansas. We’ve teamed up with Chef Luis Guillen to bring our local food sources and our award-winning Kansas wine together in one unforgetable meal.

Our dinner will be 5 Kansas courses paired with 5 Kansas wines. This will be an intimate dinner limited to 30 guests maximum. You will be amazed by everything we grow and have available here year round. Greens in January? Yup, we grow them year round.

The cost of the JustKS! dinner ticket includes all gratuities, sales taxes, alcohol taxes, Eventbrite fees, ticketing, and processing fees. (The ticket cost of $97.08 is comprised of about $70 for food and wine with the remainder covering all taxes and fees.)

Join us for a wonderful dinner carefully constructed using the finest locally grown and raised ingredients. We look forward to seeing you soon!

Now Open: The New Lancaster General Store & Winery

What do winery owners dedicated to Kansas vines and wines do to relax? If you are Stephen and Kristin Graue of Middle Creek Winery, you buy an old general store in serious need of renovation, and save it! The New Lancaster General Store is now open as a tasting and sales room for Middle Creek Winery.

Located at 36688 New Lancaster Road in Paola, KS, the general store was originally built in 1874, rebuilt after a fire in 1903, and most recently rebuilt in 2014. At the beginning of the most recent renovations, the building didn’t even have water service or indoor plumbing.

The interior is nearly original with tin ceilings, wood floors and the original shelving. Kristin reported she was able to have the shelf paint color matched to an original century plus old green color.

The 2014 Kansas Harvest is Under Way!

Harvest is a magical time in the vineyard. We are truly experiencing the fruits of our labor. Many Kansas wineries offer harvest days when you can get out and volunteer to help harvesting grapes from the wineries vineyard. Check with your favorite Kansas winery and see when they will be picking their grapes. Get out of the city and live the vineyard life for a day and help make great Kansas wine! Cheers!

Kansas Grape Harvest is Near!

The grapes have entered veraison (the onset of ripening) and harvest is just around the corner. This has been an interesting year for Kansas wine, and for many other growing regions as well. From a dry spring, to a super wet first half of June, to a dry and hot July, and now a cool and rainy August. Most every vineyard is very pleased to have received the rain we did in the past week.

Harvest is a magical time, and one of the best days to spend in a vineyard. For the winegrowers, it is the day to fully realize the fruits of their labor. Many wineries offer the opportunity to volunteer and help pick the grapes during harvest. We would encourage you to review the map and inquire at a winery near you about harvest opportunities. Get out and be an agritourist for a day. You won’t regret it! Cheers.
